Directions:
Prepare the oven and preheat to 175 degrees C or 350 degrees F.
Apply cooking spray in a 2-quart baking dish.
Crack the eggs and separate the egg whites from the egg yolks.
Add butter, flour, and 1 1/2 cups of white sugar into a large mixing bowl. Whisk until well combined.
Add the egg yolks, lemon zest, and milk. Beat until well mixed.
Add the lemon juice and stir until well blended.
In a separate mixing bowl, add the egg whites and beat until stiff peaks form.
Add the rest of the sugar gradually and beat every addition.
Transfer the egg white mixture into the batter, then beat until well mixed.
Transfer the batter into the prepared baking dish and spread it evenly.
Put the baking dish with the batter into a shallow pan with hot water,
Place it inside the preheated oven and bake for about an hour at 350 degrees F or 175 degrees C or until it turns light brown.
Remove from the oven and allow the cake to cool completely.
Sprinkle confectioners’ sugar over the warm cake.
