You will never settle for take-outs with this amazing Chinese-inspired Orange Chicken dish that you can whip up in your kitchen in minutes! A restaurant-quality breaded chicken smothered in a luscious orange sauce.



Canola oil for frying

2 1/2 lbs chicken breasts (cut into 1” chunks)

2 eggs (beaten)

1/4 c. flour

1 c. cornstarch

1/2 tsp salt

1/4 tsp ground black pepper

Orange Sauce:

2 cloves garlic (minced)

1 c. Orange Juice

1/4 c. brown sugar

1/4 c. white sugar

1 tbsp fresh ginger (minced)

2 tbsp rice vinegar

1/4 c. soy sauce

1/2 tsp red pepper flakes

1 tbsp cornstarch

1 orange zested


Orange zest

Green onions (chopped)

How to make Orange Chicken


Step 1: Add the cornstarch flour, salt, and black pepper to a large, shallow bowl.

Step 2: In a different bowl, add the beaten eggs.

Step 3: Into a deep frying pan, heat around 2 inches of canola oil over medium-high heat.

Step 4: Into the beaten egg, dip the chicken pieces. Coat them in cornstarch. Add the chicken pieces to the hot oil in batches and cook until golden and crispy. When done, transfer the cooked pieces of chicken to a plate. Set aside.

Orange Sauce:

Step 5: Add the orange juice to the same pan along with the white and brown sugar, rice vinegar, soy sauce, ginger, garlic, and red chilli flakes. Cook for about 3 minutes over medium heat.

Step 6: Whisk 1 tbsp cornstarch with 2 tbsp water in a small bowl until a paste forms.

Step 7: To the orange sauce, add the slurry and stir until incorporated. Cook for another 5 minutes or until the mixture starts to thicken.

Step 8: Adjust the heat to low once the sauce has thickened and whisk in the orange zest. Return the chicken to the pan and toss until well coated with the orange sauce. If desired, set aside some of the sauce for drizzle.

Step 9: Enjoy the orange chicken over rice and garnish with some green onions and orange zest.
